Hard Reminders

A year ago, a friend was diagnosed with cancer, however she demonstrated that the human spirit is an amazing and powerful thing. After a year long fight and many chemo treatments later, she was cancer free - a massive victory!!

Now, this is where this story takes a sad turn. With her immune system wiped out from all the treatments, she developed an infection and just didn't have the strength to fight back. Ten days ago we lost a friend.

I am not looking for sympathy with this story, my wife and I are not unique, cancer takes far too many lives in this world. What I do want to share is how we decided to celebrate her life.

I am very fortunate, I have an amazing wife and a large group of very close and genuine, respectful friends. However, with our "perceived" priorities it seems "harder" and "harder" to make time to hang out. Allie, you gave us the painful reminder of what really is important in this world and so, on Sunday afternoon, we all got together and hung out. It was the perfect thing to do.

You see Allie Thurston was a people person, she enjoyed chatting, sharing and laughing. There was no better way to honour her life than by doing the exact thing she enjoyed the most, hanging out. So we shared, we laughed, and we cried. And I know somewhere Allie was smiling.

Allie, be at peace, you left the world a better place.
